The Growing Places Project ran from April 2024 until March 2025 involving twenty two artists, thirty community groups and four partners managing land around Stroud.
This arts project focussed on landscape, food, farming and community. The aim was to grow creative access to the land and to recognise the role that art can play in engaging communities with nature. We are convinced of the benefit of developing an understanding of farming, the landscape people see and the food they eat.
One aim of the Project was to leave an online directory to enable links to continue between artists, local organisations, landowners and farmers so that they can come together to do more of the sorts of things that Growing Places has been about. To be part of the directory please complete this brief form (link to Google form)
This Directory lists artists, community groups and farmers/land managers and what they are offering or would like to do or like to host on their land.
The community groups, including schools and charities from around Stroud, have worked with artists on wide variety of creative projects, all inspired by nature. Ten of the artists have been resident in a purpose built Gingerbread House drawing, printing, walking and gathering were some of the activities. Examples from the Growing Places project can be seen here (link to the narrative – coming soon)
